Q&A: Seth Lloyd: A pioneer of quantum computing believes the universe is a quantum computer. TR: And why does the universe tend to complexity? SL: This notion of the universe as a giant quantum computer gets you something new and important that you don’t get from the ordinary laws of physics. If you look back 13.8 billion [...]

The trailer about this movie was about this guy that was able to go back into time and see the past and would be able to change the future. That’s what i thought the movie was about just a guy that was able to go back into time and change the current future, to better his future and everyone else’s future. But in the movie they never showed in the trailer that there was a major conscience of him going back into the past. He would have major cesures, which at one point almost cost him his life. And every time that he would go back into time to fix something it would never fix the problem, it just brought more problems. I thought the movie was a good movie cause i ended up buying the DVD.

The website that i found my film review from is . My opinion is very simialr to the review. At first i thought that it was a typically movie about a white female falls in love with a black man but is unable to be together because of the social contraints during that time period. It blew me away when they showed her husband with another man. I truely didn’t expect that to happen. But over all the movie was a good movie. It showed didn’t types of racisim; with gays, blacks, ect. In every different scene they showed a different problem, like how the father was so disconnected with the kids, the drinking, and social issues. I would rate this movie a 8 out of 10.

Earlier this summer when my family went to Orlando for vacation, we were staying in our summer apartment there and I noticed the trailer for a movie that I was always interested in watching, however I never could remember to pick it up in Blockbuster. From the trailer, I was convinced that the movie was somehow related to the things that occur in the Harry Potter series. I saw a talking lion, talking lions, and a secret wardrobe that led to another world. Well we went to Blockbuster later that night and picked up the movie. After I watched the movie, I was astonished at what I thought it was about. The movie happen to resemble the story of Jesus as he was curcified and ressurrected. I had no idea that the movie would be about this at all. I really enjoyed the movie because talking animals always interest me. This goes to show everyone that you can never completely tell what is going to happen in a movie just by looking at the trailer.

When I first watched this film it changed my aspects on how students lived in 1971. It still amazes me how people could react once they were told that they had to move into an integrated school. But then I have to constantly remind myself that race was major issue at that time, and sadly to say it is still remains an issue today even though it’s not as evident as it was in the 1900s.
When writing this paper, I believe that it is going to be geared towards people of all races, because at some point in time everyone has been judge incorrectly. Since the movie is based on racial issues and the fact that it’s still prominent in today’s society I think that the audience is appropriate for all cultures and age groups.
When watching this movie, viewers can see that people were judge based on the color of their skin, but if you can look pass that you will realize that the person can have the same interest like you. So it doesn’t matter if your skin color is not the same as the person next to you, it does not give you the right to discriminate them. However, if you feel that you should a person, judge them based on their character not their race and you should give them the same kind of respect that you know you deserve.

Pleasantvilles director and screenplay writer Gary Ross was not a very experienced director when he first came into Pleasantville. Personally his debut as a director in Pleasantville was one of the most outstanding projects that Gary Ross has ever worked on. He was the writer of BIG a movie starring Tom Hanks as a child who wishes to be an adult and also movies like DAVE, LASSIE and SEABUSICUIT. According to a review by James Berardinelli he brought a sense of gentle, affectionate mocking to the film.

The movie I decided To analyze is called Recrium for a Dream. I picked this movie because I believe that one of the biggest problems in American Culture is trying to keep our society 100% drug free. This movie is about two young gentlemen who lives on the streets and spend thier days “scoring” drugs, selling them, and heavily abusing them. I chose this movie becuase I am personally for a Drug Free America and this movie is a perfect example of how these drug abusers live their lives. People have so many opportunities in their lives to succeed and do good and to just throw it all away becuase of something that alters your mind just makes me sick. There are also other important topics in this movie that are problems in today’s world like prostitution, theft, and violence. I am excited to overview this movie into more detail and explain why I find it so important to keep Drugs and Violence off the streets completely.

According to a review by James Berardinelli . This film is directed towards families and new generations for the simple fact that it opens young teenagers mind to the past. I will direct my paper/review to this new generation and families because the movie is directed to them and since I am part of our newer generation they should be able to read a review about the movie from someone their own age. There have been a couple of other reviews about the movie. They all go along with what I think. They can either love the movie or hate which is something i have to take a close look at.

I am targeting my movie review of “Saved!” for publication in the USF school newspaper, the Oracle. It’s target audience is, naturally, USF college students, typically aged 18-24. This audience is a likely target audience for the movie, which is essentially a teen comedy, and is traditionally marketed to high school and college students. The movie’s lampooning of evangelical Christianity is likely to strike a chord with many USF students, who, coming largely from the southern part of the country where that particular branch is well-entrenched, have probably encountered it in some form or another. Those who haven’t been exposed to evangelical Christianity will probably miss out on some of the humor, and devotees of said church may well be offended, but I feel the film’s tale of universal acceptance and finding one’s own path is one nearly everyone can appreciate. This reviewer at Reel.com says it best: “Saved!” isn’t about making fun of faith; it’s about finding one’s own definition of it in the most honest way possible.” That search for one’s on faith is something I think every college student can relate to.

The style of content normally found in the Oracle is quite varied, as the paper publishes material both by its own staff and that of student contributors. This is ideal for me, as I have never written a movie review, so I will be attempting to find my own style in this endeavor.

When I started high school, I also made the soccer team, which meant volunteering alot. The coach of my team was also the head of the concession stand, so she constantly needed helpers. I would always volunteer mainly because i got to have one thing out of the stand and also i got to see the game for free. I especially loved it when the guys soccer games were going on, so i could watch and work at the same time.

After my coach stepped down from head of the concession stand, we did a different type of volunteering. My coach didnt teach at my high school, she taught at a elementary school in Orlando. She is P.E teacher and the school is a private school. She soon started her own soccer camp for younger players. The main kids that come are from her school, and the camp is also held at her school. She called her camp Bovell’s Buddies and when she began the camp she came up with the idea to just have her high school player coach and train the kids. It was a great idea because as you should know high school students need volunteer hours. It was great i would do the camp twice in both december and the summer. It was so much fun, and for me to able to get counted to doing something that i loved doing.

The kids were so much fun to coach. Each day they draw you pictures or bring you something special. Also they idolize you, which feels great. The little kids just think your the greatest soccer player on earth. They are very competitive but such a joy to be around. Even though i started college and i no longer play on the high school soccer team, I’m still going to coach at all the sessions that i can.

I recommend to re-new you tag on your liscense plate much earlier then the last day you can do it for many obvious reasons. I decided to wait until today, monday july 31st to renew my tags and I tell you it was HELL!! On account that there was every person in the city of tampa getting their tag reissued today, I had to wait 4 hours before I could talk to a specialist. Finally when it was my turn, they would not give me service becuase I did not have an updated automobile insurance card. So…… I had to call the insurance company for them to fax a copy of updated information to the tax collectors. Little did I know, I am not on their list of available drivers for my vehicle becuase it is under my fathers name and only my step-mother and him are in the system. So….. I had to call my step mother (after many calls) and ask her to call the insurance company for them to fax the information of the car insurance so I could get my new tag. Long story short, after a long brutal battle, I finally got my tag 5 minutes before they closed after being in that hot, smelly, disgusting room for 4 hours. Moral of the story…GET YOUR TAG SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!

This is weekend i went home. I live in Deltona, which is about 2 hours from here. Its not too bad of a drive but gets boring by yourself. When i got home i was so excited to see my dog. I’ve missed having my dog sleep with me and just to have around. His name is Hank and he is a very fun-loving animal. He’s an english bulldog, so he looks tough and mean but he wouldnt hurt a fly. I was also very excited to see all my friends and family as well as my boyfriend.

When ever I go home I dont go to sleep until around about 4 am or later, and I’m always busy. I get so caught up in trying to see everyone. Its so hard to spend time with your parents, all your friends, and your boyfriend in a little less than 2 full days. I always feel like i am not with one of them long enough, especially my parents. I feel bad because they give me money and when I’m down I dont spend all my time with them. Then again i have a limited time there to use on a lot of people. For instance, I got there about 6pm on Friday and then I have to leave by 7 or 8pm on Sunday. This weekend though i brought my friend back up with me because she has orientation for the next two days. So I was happy to not to drive back all by myself.

In four years I plan to still be furthering my education and hopefully doing an internship at a physciatric ward, hospital, or any hospital on campus studying clinical or neurological psychology. I also see my personal life hitting one of its apex’s. At the present time, I am not sure if I will do a graduate program at USF or continue my education else where. I also hope that when I receive my PhD or PsyPhd that I will start a practice with someone very close to me who is majoring in Pre-Med and Psychology to become a psychiatrist. I also hope that the same person will propose to me by then. There are many things that I want to happen, but, these two by far are the most important things.
A possibility, but not for sure, would be to move back up North in the Delaware/Pennsylvania area. I enjoy the cooler weather and miss my family. My second eldest brother and my sister are graduating in three more years and it has been hard not being around to see them, or my other two younger brothers growing up. Personally though, it is hard for me to right down everything that I truly see because my expectations are set in stone and are a personal joy for me.

The theme that I am following in this blog is how to teach yourself guitar. I never took one lesson in my life solely because of the internet. I find this to be a better way to learn guitar becuase you learn more difficult songs played by guitar experts in rock bands.

The Web Site that I decided to analyze is www.dmbtabs.com. The Web site is designed to teach the average guitar player to play Dave Matthews Band songs. Although most people learn music from reading it off of a six lines with notes, this style of learning music is called reading tabs. This way of learning guitar is how I taught myself how to play and I just wanted to share it with everyone.

This weekend I went home to Miami. on Friday it was mine and my boyfriends 11 month anniversary we went to eat sushi which I loved…since I havent eaten sushi in a while. We then decided to go see Miami Vice. NOW when I first saw the trailer for Miami Vice I thought about the show and how I love watching the re-runs. The movie looked like it was going to be as good as the show. I thought it would give the new generation a look at a show that made a great impact on not just Miami but all around the country. The trailer showed action and drama plus two of the greatest hottest actors in Hollywood today. I was super excited to watch the movie. As the movie began the beginning seemed very boring but I thought it would get better. It didnt there like 1 and a half action scenes in it. They wanted it to have so much drama that it wasnt dramatic at all. i was really upset at the fact that a movie that had so much potential just for the fact that it was a classic as a television show. My love for Colin Feral and Jamie Fox still goes on but it doesnt mean that I wont get upset at the movie and the writers. The movie could have been so much better in so many ways. It could have had a better plot and more action.

In order to prepare for the new academic year, we will be expanding the myUSF hardware back-end to improve performance and offer better response times. Given the constant demands for online resources, our only window of opportunity to carry out this task is the intersession between summer and fall semesters.

Accordingly, myUSF is scheduled to be unavailable from the morning of Tuesday, Aug 15th, until the end-of-business of Thursday, Aug 24th.

We are very conscious of how crucial this same time is for all of you to prepare for classes. It is our intention to work diligently to restore access to myUSF as quickly as possible. We will send an announcement the moment the system is made available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this necessary expansion. Again, if we are able to complete the work before the 24th, we will communicate it to you promptly.

Okay, I couldn’t resist. Since I’ve been speaking so often on the wonders of HTTP Streaming in AJAX applications.

I posted recently about a technique to hold open such a connection using hidden IFRAMES and inline javascript tags.

Since a user agent executes javascript as it’s received, regardless of the rendering status of the rest of the page, one can create a server process that spits out inline javascript tags when a certain event happens on the server. The client interprets the javascript as soon as it appears and now you have a server process calling javascript functions! Kind of like the inverse of AJAX.

Combine that with some slick inter-process communication, and AJAX for client->server data, and you have a very low-latency client-server interaction.

Here’s the issue, if you’re using PHP, one must remember that PHP waits until a script is completed before it echos data to the client. Not very helpful in a streaming environment. Therefore, it is necessary to use a flush() call after every instance of echo that you want to be sent to the browser in real-time. You can configure PHP to behave this way all the time, but it’s seriously sub-optimal and should basically be used only for debugging.

So there you have it, client->server with AJAX, server->client with COMET, and server< ->server with traditional UNIX IPC.

The latest version of USF WebMail is now out of beta! If you have any questions or comments, please post a comment to this blog entry or send an Email to USG@mailman.acomp.usf.edu

We hope you enjoy this update to WebMail — it is the first improvement of several that are planned for the 2006-07 school year.

Congratulations! To all of you who opposed the bill for stem cell research that Bush vetoed, you’ve won a pretty important battle in the war. So, the 400,000 or so frozen embryos won’t be used for stem cell research, and you can praise Bush for sticking to his guns. So, again, congratulations! [...]

I agreed with the online review for far from heaven . Most of the issues that were presented in the movie still exist today. Of course our society is much more open about homosexuality and people splitting up or getting a divorce than the society in the 1950’s. Other issues that still exist are racism, and domestic violence. Racism might have evolved since the 1950’s but it still exists; we might not think anything if we saw a Caucasian person and a African American holding hands in a restaurant and having dinner. Where as if we saw a Caucasian person with some one from the Middle East, in a black gown covering everything but there eyes, having dinner it is more alarming than the other couple. Racism in my opinion definitely still exists just in a different way than before. Its isn’t so much as to whites against blacks and vice versa; It is more of racism towards people who are from the middle east—thought to be terrorists. Another issue that I know exists if domestic violence. In the movie frank kept hitting his wife and then apologizing. That still takes place today, but on many different levels. Today it is not just about a husband hitting his wife; it is that plus parents hitting there kids, wife’s hitting there husbands and much more. These things in my opinion will always exist in some from. As long as people try to be controlling and think that the are better than every one else.

I really wasn’t sure what movie to my movie review on. After watching several movies I realized that I was more confused after watching those movies than when I began watching them. Unable to decide between two of three movies I choose to go with the movie that touched my heart. The movie I finally picked, after a lot of moaning, groaning and not being able to decided on a movie that I could write 1500 words on, is John Q. Featuring Oscar winner Denzel Washington this movie would be perfect I thought. The movie displays a number of different issues that take place everyday in our society such as: Families that are struggling because they are financially insecure, jobs are unavailable or are not paying there employees enough. Another issue that I found to be a major issue is health coverage, and hospitals/doctors taking advantage of people. People may be working under the illusion that they are fully covered under their medical insurance, and they might really not be covered. The hospital staff above everyone else was portrayed as being careless and non generous to the patients and their situations. John Q is a movie about a desperate father whose son needs a heart transplant; not being able to afford such a surgery he turns to his insurance, the hospital, and all other resources that were suggested. Being turned down from every one and seeing all doors of hope close, he is forced to take extreme measures, in times of desperation. Putting the hospital on lock down with a few doctors, nurses, and patients as hostages, John demands a heart transplant to be done to save his dieing sons life.
This movie was very touching. It showed that parents will do anything for their children and that was one of the reason why I choose this movie.

Ok so, After seeing the movie trailers for Hostel. I was so hyped up to see it. All the previews were saying how scary it was, that it was the scariest movie of the century, and people were fainting, and all that hoopla. It turned out that the movie was more of a porno than a horror. My boyfriend actually took me and he wanted his money back. We were all ready to see all the blood and gore and….never happened. The movie was a bunch of bologna and a waste of my two hours.

Ok so, I saw this movie ,O ,awhile ago and I loved it. It was a movie based on Othello, the Shakespearean play. Mekhi Phifer and Julia Stiles are the main characters. Basically, the movie is about “jungle fever”, if you don’t know what that means, it’s basically about an interracial relationship. Mekhi being the black guy that dates the “token” white girl, Julia Stiles. Mekhi is the star basketball player on the team and Julia is the daughter of the dean. Soon, the basketball coachs’ son gets jealous of Mekhi because he gets all the attention from his dad. He concocts a plan to make Mekhi jealous. His plan takes a turn for the worse and all hell breaks loose. Mekhi becomes extremely paranoid about his relationship with Julia because the coachs’ son has planted a seed of jealousy. Then, yada yada yada…Mekhi kills Julia then himself. Crazy i know, but what did you expect from a Shakespearean play. I wanted to review this movie because I think that it has all the right elements. Love, Jealousy and Murder. A great combination. The movie is compelling because the characters are very good actors and make the love story very believable. The twists and turns of the plot line make it easy to watch and you find yourself on the edge of the seat waiting for what’s going to happen next. The director and writer did a wonderful job making this into a teen movie, it exceeded my expectations. I waited forever for this movie to hit theaters and was not disappointed at all with the movie.
