During our class discussion the other day the subject of giving a dollar to a homeless person was presented. Would I give a homeless person a dollar if they asked? Up until this point I probably would have just ignored the request and kept on my way, but after hearing some others point of view, I’ll reconsider. I was in the “Not usually, but” group and I think I my beliefs fit in best there. I would not usually give a homeless person a dollar because they might be buying alcohol, not actually be homeless, mug you, have a disease and cough it on you, or just keep asking for more, but it could be the holidays, cold outside, they could be feeding a family, be a war veteran, hungry, just trying to get a bus, or disabled. Besides, it’s just a dollar and you are trying to be a good person. When I look back at that list I notice that there are more “but’s” than “not usually’s”. I understand that some of these homeless people have problems. There are shelters for the homeless and for veterans to go to. And some of them are just faking it, which I never thought possible until Danielle mentioned the story about the homeless woman that drove a Mercedes Benz. I guess people can really make a chunk of change just by standing on the side of a road. But, back to the point, everyone could use a little help now and then. I know if I were in a stitch and needed a dollar to make a call or get a bus, I would hope someone would be kind enough to help me out.

Giving one of my hard earned dollars to somebody I don’t even know sounds unthinkable. At my minimum wage job I would have to work 10 minutes to earn one dollar. Although one dollar might not seem like that much to some, I don’t believe that my own hard earned money can be fully appreciated by anyone else. I wouldn’t even give my friend a dollar because he shows no responsibility in money management. He has no concept of what a dollar is worth and feels no guilt wasting his parent’s money. Even if I did give my hard earned money to someone, how do I know it is going to be used for what they say? An example of this would be a homeless man setting on the corner with a sign begging for food. Giving him a dollar is great and ever thing but he has the money know and can spend it on whatever he wants. I believe it is going to be spent on other things like alcohol and cigarettes not food which he should actually buy. Also the way I was raised has a lot to do with my view of a dollar. If I wanted something when I was younger I had to work for it and save, not give up and beg for money. Begging is one of the lowest of lows and knowing that there is always a job somewhere you just have to find it means that nobody should be panhandling.

How would you like to kick the game winning field goal in overtime to send your team to the Super bowl? That’s exactly what Lawrence Tynes accomplished in the sub zero weather in Green Bay. Thanks to Tynes the New York Giants are going to the Super bowl in Phoenix, Arizona this coming Sunday. Tynes hasn’t ever had it easy. Just six months ago he was sleeping on a bed he made in the hospital to be with his wife who was struggling with the final weeks of a high risk pregnancy with twin boys. Five years ago he was all over the place when it came to football. He was in and out of NFL training camps, NFL Europe, Canadian Football League and never knew where his career was going to hold at. Even on his 25th birthday he had it rough. He was driving to his sibling’s home to play video games but once they got there they saw federal agents storming the house, and accused his brother of being the head of a huge marijuana smuggling operation. Tynes says, “I don’t need a pity party for me. Everyone has troubles. I think it builds character. It’s helped me come through some tough times getting traded, getting cut. And I wouldn’t trade my life for anything in the world. Any of it.” Tynes was born in Scotland and was raised on soccer. He moved to the U.S. and played one year of high school football and turned it in to an NFL career. Know Tynes is living the dream of a lifetime and enjoying it.

A dollar

The question was asked that if you saw a homeless person would you give them a dollar? As you think about this, some people get there response right away other however has to think about whether they will. In my opinion I wouldn’t give them a dollar. For one no matter what I believe if you want a job there is some job somewhere you can get. Also, it could be a scam I know I have heard many stories about people getting in cars like Mercedes and drive away and go to a nice big house after acting like a homeless person. I think it is definitely wrong if people pose like that but if people give them money then I guess they can think it is ok. I believe that’s wrong 100% and think nobody should do that. Other people may argue that you should give them money they have none and it’s only a dollar. Well it’s your hard earned money why do you have to give it away. I might give a homeless person a dollar on some certain occasions. For instance, it could be a holiday and I feel very charitable. Other times could be if I’m just in a very good all around mood. I could be a nice person but I don’t trust people and don’t want to get scammed. Everyone has an opinion on this matter some more charitable then other but it’s there opinion and let them believe as they want.

IM sports

Everybody hears about school varsity sports. For instance everyone knows about the schools real varsity football team. Well most colleges have what’s called intramural sports. This is the sports in a safer and you don’t have to try out to play. I just recently got done playing IM football. This was a great experience that I had. I really advise playing an IM sport. My team had a great season this year. We started out 1-1 and didn’t look like a very good team but then we switched positions and I became more a part of the offense. This is when we started playing good. We lost 1 more game but we won 2 more and it was a great time. We didn’t get to make the play-offs however because our team didn’t have high enough conduct and didn’t get to play. This was a huge disappointment but we got over it. Then the next sport is up now. We are playing IM soccer. I never had soccer where I was from so this is a great experience and a lot of fun to try. When I first came to college I didn’t really think I would get to play all the sports plus some new ones. In the upcoming weeks I am going to get an IM basketball team started and getting ready to play. I believe 100% that if you like sports before you come into college you defiantly should sign up and play IM sports when you get to college.

Should I give a homeless person a dollar?

If I was walking down the street and a homeless person approached me and asked for a dollar. my initial impulse would be to give him a dollar. It feels almost as an obligation to help out a fellow man with less fortune as you. It feels like an obligation to humanity. Then again, many other things would enter in my head that advocate not giving the homeless man a dollar. The homeless man might receive the dollar and ask for more money and that is just immature and annoying. He might use the dollar and spend in unwisely, like on drugs or alcohol. He may harm me and steal my wallet. One last skeptical idea would be that he isn’t homeless at all and he is just on the street lying about his financial situation to obtain a dollar without working. These ideas would stop me from giving a homeless man a dollar. If the homeless man ensured me that he was going to buy food with it and not alcohol and drugs, I myself would go with him and buy that item of food. However, after all that analysis I do also consider that it’s just a dollar. Nevertheless, I could purchase a double cheeseburger or a soft serve cone from McDonalds. After giving it all this thought I would not give the homeless person a dollar, but if I didn’t have all this time to analyze my next move I would probably cave and give him the dollar.

Topic of my Choice

The topic I choose will be about my favorite activity. My favorite hobby is surfing. I started surfing about four years ago and I knew I was addicted. I have a 6’4” short board and a 7’2” long board. I grew up on the gulf coast of Florida in Sarasota. Although, Sarasota does not have waves all the time I can still get some surfing in during storms, cold fronts, or take a trip to the east coast. I have been surfing in Costa Rica twice, but I have been there four times. This past summer I went to Playa Hermosa and surfed week as a graduation present from my parents. The other time I surfed there was back in the summer before my freshman year of high school. When I surf in Sarasota I surf at Lido Key at a private beach of a hotel. I have met a lot of people out in the lineup. It’s a good place to talk to old very experienced surfers. For instance, I met this guy who had been surfing that spot since 1972. Old surfers can teach a lot. You can meet a lot of interesting and crazy people who can change your life after one conversation. One the most amazing things I have seen while surfing is a dolphin surfing the wave about one hundred feet to the right of me. One day I hope to establish a career in Costa Rica and be able to surf every day.

Global warming is becoming a greater risk everyday we continue on how we have been for centuries. Until something is changed nothing can be done to prevent this future catastrophe that has the ability to destroy all forms of live. Pollution from factories, automobiles and anything producing carbon dioxide are increasingly destroying our earth little by little yet there are still only a handful of people really concentrating on what can be done to stop or for now slow down the process of Global warming. Not one individual can do it alone and we all need to begin changing our daily lives in order to save us before it’s too late. For as long as scientists have known the dangers of global warming and the affects it holds there still haven’t been any major changes to our lives. We don’t see everything that goes on around the world unless you take a moment and look, because of our being and outrageous lifestyles many species have or are predicted to go extinct. Therefore it is not just our own kind that were effecting but animals that don’t contribute to global warming are begging to suffer and take the punishments for our reckless living habits. If everyone would just change a fraction of there life it would make all the difference, not just for us but anything that inhabits this planet.

Questioning what is the right thing to do when it comes to giving loose change or anything to a homeless person is actually the right thing to do or not can be perceived in many different ways. Some people may be in a financial position in which giving a dollar away would not cause any harm, and others may not be able to find any surplus of money in their daily lives. Should they still go out of there way to provide something to give to the homeless? Many people view this topic differently. Somebody could think that by not giving a dollar to a homeless person this could in return come back around, like karma, what goes around comes around. Then there are people that will give a dollar just to feel better about themselves. My personally opinion on the topic is to not just give away money that you have earned just to help somebody who can help themselves. Therefore if the person was handicapped in a way he could not provide for him or herself then that might possibly be the only case I would sacrifice money. But the right thing to do is not written in stone anywhere so it is really up to you and how you judge the situation to make a personal opinion.

Come out the information showcase about the new building on February 4th, from 11:00am until 1:30pm in the room 132 of the MC. We’ll have new renderings and floorplans of the new building, plus new information. There will also be free snacks. So grab some lunch in the food court and come on by room 132 (around the corner from the food court) and check everything out. We look forward to seeing you there.

My group in class was given the topic “Yes, always, because…” and we had to respond to the topic of giving a homeless person a dollar. In my opinion, you have to look at the situation, and decide whether or not this person is really homeless. The thing is, you can’t ask the person, you just have to read them and make a decision. Then you have to decide whether your wallet can spare a few. In my case I probably couldn’t, because normally as a college student I am broke. But when I do have some spare money and the homeless person is actually homeless I would probably give them a dollar. One thing that is scary nowadays is that you can’t really trust that many people. One late night I was driving with my girlfriend from the movies and we stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly I hear a knock at my window… Savy (girlfriend) screams I look over and I happen to shout AHH!!!! There was a homeless or crack-head begging for money. Immediately I screamed at him saying “GET THE HECK AWAY, YOU CRAZY #$#@%^! I shouted you scared us..” The man said “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you” in a pathetic way. I peeled out and drove off… This is a reason why I am a little hesitant to role down my window to a homeless person.

Living on campus is a great way to get to know a campus better. I feel everyone should live on campus their first year. Coming to the school I was lost and had no clue what was going on that is why I decided to live on campus. Not only do you get to meet many new people that will probably stay with you throughout college but it is also a great way to get involved. When living on campus you get to know what events are being held at a certain time and place, have leadership roles in your living hall or on campus in general, and you get a better grasp of the school. Living in Castor Hall my first year was not nearly as bad as everyone thought it was. When I would tell people I live in Castor, everyone would turn their noses up. Living on campus you have everything you need, a cafeteria with food, two gyms, parking spots, a pool, basketball courts, and many more. What else do you need? Castor is not at all like what people all think. I have been able to make the best out of it all. Yes the bathroom situation is not that fun, but the positive side to it is once you walk in the bathroom someone will be there with something interesting to tell you. I have been able to form great friendships with the girls on my floor. We go out together all the time and even go to each other’s houses over breaks! Not only have I made great friends but I have been able to take on leadership positions in Castor and on campus.

Although I was in the group saying that I would always give money without a doubt to homeless people, I do not agree with that in reality. I felt everyone in each group had come up with good answers for their situation. Was that really what they all thought though? My own personal thought about giving money to a homeless person is very simple. No matter what the occasion is, I will not go out giving money to them. If someone can stand outside begging for money from 9:00 a.m-5:00 p.m, why can they not get a job? That really irritates me. With the amount of time people spend standing outside, they could look for a job. When homeless people are on the sides of the roads asking for money but willing to give someone something, for example a rose, I would be more willing to take it. If had a reason to buy what they were selling, I would spend the buck or two. Really a dollar or two dollars is not that much. Out of all of these, I am more willing to give money to an organization. Some type of homeless shelter, or homeless families. I have before given my birthday gifts to homeless families. Performing some type of deed like that, I would rather do than give money to people. Having objects can excite a homeless person just as much as money. You never know where the money you give to a homeless is going to really go towards.

For my topic of choice I am going to speak about if marijuana should be legalized. Well I think I am more against the legalization of marijuana for me personally because I do not smoke and do not ever plan on it. So to me they could illegalize it. But thinking for others I am not sure either, the only thing I really know about it from my side of life is mostly just smoking it to get high. Some people use marijuana to relieve stress also. Well it is more of a health risk so it should be illegal. If damages the mostly at high percentage I do not see the positive aspect of legalizing it. If marijuana is legalized it would damage more people and most likely more frequently, because it would be more available and be smoked even more than the amount smoked now. Marijuana has dangers like any other substance in the world, but it is not needed so it does not need to be legalized. It also has a larger number of dangers, as a result of consuming it, than these other substances that we need are in the world and is not illegal. For example food has dangers also but it is not as negative as the consumption of alcohol. What I am saying is Marijuana is not needed so why the United States should put something negative, for the most part, available for any person to get. Marijuana is just another thing just like cigarettes that is not needed. Marijuana should not be legalized because there are not good enough reasons to legalize it.

Doug Ramsey recently announced that Dennis Irwin, bassist for the Vanguard Orchestra and Matt Wilson’s Arts and Crafts, among others, has cancer and does not have the insurance to cover it. Dennis This is an issue facing many professional musicians (and many Americans in general), who work as independent contractors and cannot afford health insurance premiums. Do any readers know of organizations specializing in artist healthcare?

There are several benefits happening in Irwin’s behalf:

Friends and admirers are organizing a series of benefits for him, beginning next Sunday following the Super Bowl. It will begin at 10 pm at the Lower Manhattan jazz club called Smalls, 10th Street and Seventh Avenue, just down the street from the Village Vanguard. Musicians are encouraged to sit in. For information, go to this page at the Smalls web site and scroll down to February 3.

There will be an Irwin benefit with the Vanguard Orchestra on Monday, February 18 at the Village Vanguard, 178 Seventh Avenue South.

Tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano is organizing still another benefit for Irwin at Lincoln Center’s Allen Room on Monday, March 10. Details are being formulated. Lovano reports that big names will be involved.

The topic that I am going to be talking about is my tests that are coming up for my classes. Everybody knows that in college, tests usually come up around the same time for most people. Well, now that is applying to me. I have three tests coming up this week and next week. The first test that I have coming up is my Introduction to Sociology class. It is about a bunch of slides that we went over. The test is multiple choice that are worth 80 points total with 4 short answer questions that are worth the remaining 20 points of our test. The next test that I have coming up is my General Chemistry II test. That one is probably going to be a little bit difficult because the material that we are learning is a little bit hard and the chemistry tests are always hard so this is the test that I am most worried about. This test is going to be 20 multiple choice questions on scantron. We only have about 50 minutes to do, so the time is really going to be something else. The last test that I have coming up is my Introduction to American Studies class. That test is going to be all short answer questions that is going to take about “7 1/2″ minutes to answer each question. That one is the least of my worries out of all of the tests. So those are my tests that I have coming up this week. I hope I do really well on all of these tests.

On Tuesday, we had a class discussion on if we would give people that are homeless any money for them to help support themselves. We broke into four different groups and talked about this. The group that I was in was arguing that we would definitely give homeless people money. We argued that it would make us feel better about ourselves if we did give money to the homeless people. Also, giving homeless people one dollar or a couple of bucks wouldn’t really make much of a difference and it could at least give them something to eat. We were arguing this because we were supposed to be arguing what was given to us. Honestly, if it were up to me, I wouldn’t really stop in the middle of the road and give homeless people any money for a couple of reasons. One of my reasons is that anybody can a part time job. For example, 7-11 hires anybody for a little bit of cash. People can just go into 7-11 and ask the manager if they can work for a little bit of cash. That is one reason why I wouldn’t give a random homeless person any money. Another reason I wouldn’t stop and give a homeless person any money is because there are a lot of organizations and shelters that are up to help out the homeless people give them food and a place to stay. Eventually, to me, if they live in these shelters and they go out and get a job like one at 7-11. I would give money to organizations that help the homeless people. These are just my opinions on giving homeless people money or not.

I am doing my essay on the arguements between the “disease” of obesity and stem cell research. Both of them are a problem in society. When it comes to obesity, obesity is spreading out a lot, meaning more and more people now-a-days are obese. When it comes to stem cell research, it is a problem because stem cell research can major problems if it is being tested on humans, because stem cells are supposed to be used to replace other broken cells of the body. This can be used to cure cancer possibly, replace a broken spinal cord, etc. The arguement that I am trying to make is that I am agreeing with the research that is being done with trying to fix the obesity problem and the stem cell research. That is the main claim to my arguement. I agree with the research method that is being done because if scientists, doctors, etc. can fix obesity and if they are able to replace cells with other stem cells and there are not any side effects to either one of these cures, then it can really help society out and it can help people become better than what they normally could have been. When it comes to obesity, a lot of obese people don’t really have the “drive” to go on some type of diet and lose some weight. Even if they start going on a diet, they don’t have the motivation to stick to that diet because the urge to eat, be lazy, etc. gets in the way of sticking to that diet. When it comes to stem cells, some people can have some really major problems that can’t be fixed like cancer for example. If people can successfully replace cells with stem cells without anymore problems occuring, then this can help cure a lot of people that couldn’t normally be cured. This is mainly why I agree with the research that is being done. This is what I am doing my essay on.

Getting straight to the point, I personally will not give a homeless person any money… unless:
(1) They have actually been through a war that fought for this country
(2) They’re honest about what they’re going to do with the money.
(3) I go into the store with them and buy them FOOD!
(4) I’m in a good mood or am financially stable.

Other than that, I don’t think anyone should get free, non-taxable money. Homeless people should work, unless of course they are disabled either mentally or physically. If they can get free money, the Government should give us more money. Or at least lower the taxes… but that’s a another story.

Ah, another day has past. I find that there’s still not enough hours in a day for everything to get done. I’m organized to the max… and still feel like there’s a mess. Chemistry is kicking my butt! I mean, don’t get me wrong… I want to become a doctor, and of course, chemistry is in my future. I just wish there were some easy method to solving these problems! I just need to learn why every step of the solving process happens. I believe that everything happens for a reason. Once I get that down, the problems will no longer be problems.

My first chemistry exam is today. I don’t feel prepared at all. Looks like cramming has to take place. But this time it’s not the night before… its right before the exam. We’ll see how this one ends up.

…And don’t even get my started on Pre-Calc! Math USED to be my best subject. Now I feel as if I’ve never taken the class before! I’ve taken Calculus 1 in high school. And, not to brag, but I did pretty well. I’m in Pre-Calc now… and I feel dumb! The teacher is fantastic and the work isn’t too bad. I don’t understand why I don’t understand! More studying… more practice. That should help.

(I guess I still haven’t gotten a hang of this blogging thing. But… it is a great venting place.)

Todays Discussion

In today’s class discussion we discussed the needs of the less fortunate. We asked ourselves whether we would give a dollar to a homeless person. I myself would not give a dollar to a homeless person primarily because it is just not worth it. The California homeless Coalition reports that one in every five of the homeless suffers from a severe mental disorder. These disorders range from Alzheimer’s to schizophrenia. Having one of theses disease causes a person to become paranoid and delusional and create hallucinations. By chance what if you were to try and help a homeless person by giving a dollar and intern he or she were to attack you. You would be putting yourself under a great deal of risk, just to give someone a dollar. I also wouldn’t give one of the homeless money because I don’t trust them, it is reported by the CHC that close to 66 percent of homeless people suffer from some form of addiction. These numbers provide us further proof to the skepticism and concern we have when we reads the signs of homeless people begging for money so they can buy food, when really they probably want to buy liquor or some kind of drug. My greatest reason for not giving a dollar to a homeless person is because I don’t believe them. I once saw an entire family on the corner of a street were a father held a sign begging for money to help feed his family, seeing this my fried rolled down her window and offered a few dollars to the man. The next day we went to eat at a local restaurant, and there we saw the same family out of their ragged clothes and with clean faces eating dinner with four other people. He even paid for the entire meal. This display of betrayl and deceit has caused me to not allow myself to give them any money for whatever reason. Don’t take my skepticism fear as me being cold hearted or even heartless, I have just been burned so many times I refuse to stick my hand back into the unknown to only be burned again. I instead donate through web pages that are being sponsored by a state or that of the national government. I don’t like being deceived and I would much rather give twenty dollars instead of just a dollar if I just new it was getting into the right hands.

Americas Greatest Hit

For this blog I chose to write about a television program, which I have been trying to pitch for many years. The creative thought behind the show is that American culture is built around people getting hurt, as American we love to see people get hurt. This would explain all the great deal of support that boxing, UFC and wrestling. The shows name would be face punchers we pick a certain number of people and ask them if they will sign an agreement to be punched into the face for a sum of five thousand dollars at time of punch. The catch is that the punch can come at anytime. My idea for the first victim is for him to be punched while he’s ordering food, we wait for him to order some food preferably Chinese’s. Then we send in and Asian American employee to go in and give the victim his food and when the victim goes into reach for the correct amount of money we punch him. Imagine the laughter and hysteria, which would surround the show. Everyone would want to be on the show. Of course we would make sure the punch would not hurt the person very much. So the first season of the show would be the punchings of random people then we gear the second season to punching low level actors of which the everyday audience has herd very little of, this would definitely cause their careers to shoot up. The actors would probably get more money but the show would still make a great deal of profit from the blitz of advertisers. At the end of the second season we would pick a somewhat known political figure and then have him punched in the face but we wouldn’t tell him and we would build this episode up so much that the ratings would go though the roof. Regrettably this would probably be the end of the show but man what a ride it would have been. So the question you should ask yourself is, would y

I just returned from the Special Libraries Association Leadership Summit in Kentucky. I attended the Summit as the new Chair-Elect of the Information Technology Division. The Summit offers training on leadership skills and the SLA organization to its unit leaders, be chapter or division. It is also an opportunity to conduct association business as well.

There are a lot of sports in today’s age that are very popular. Some of them are indeed very tough sports and need extreme talent to play. I think one of the most difficult sports to play is soccer. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world as well as the most played sport. Contrary to that, it is one of the least favorite sports in the United States. However, soccer is one of the most difficult sports to play. It’s a very challenging game to play because you do not use your hands in the game, you use your feet for the entire game (except for the goal keeper). This is something that’s really hard to do because in every other sport you play by using your hands. This is something not very difficult because all of your life you become more and more coordinated with your hands with everything you do on a daily basis. On the other hand, you don’t use your feet to do much except walk, run, and maybe kick. Another reason why soccer is one of the most difficult sports is because it does not have timeouts. The only time they stop playing is during half time. All other sports like football, basketball, and baseball have either timeouts or periods of rest. Soccer players play for 45 minute halves non-stop. Not to mention they are constantly on the move and running. This makes the sport extremely physical and difficult to play. It is personally one of my favorite sports but I just wanted to shed some light on how difficult it really is to play this wonderful sport.

I would usually give a homeless person a dollar because they are homeless they need it. They could buy food, water and clothing, and things needed to support their family. But reasons I would not give a homeless person a dollar are because they could spend it unwisely, they could waste it, and I would rather buy food or whatever they needed and give it to them. They could spend the dollar you give them unwisely and buy unneeded things, like drugs and alcohol. They could waste the dollar given to them because they might have not deserved it. They could have been homeless for reasons they could have prevented or because of laziness. They could have chose not o work and make money, and the money I would be given them would of came from the hard earned money I have worked for. I chose to work for my money and earn it so I would not want someone to throw it away, o spend it on unneeded things, when I could have bought something I needed or even just wanted. I would also just rather buy them what they need instead because if I do that I would know my money did not go to waste or was not spent unwisely. When doing this you can take them to go buy food, water, clothes and more. I would also rather go and buy what they are asking for because they could be lying about their living condition and change their minds after I say I would go buy it for them. Also if they are lying and saying they are going to buy something needed and they really are going to go buy drugs or alcohol, unneeded things, than I would prevent them from hurting their selves more and know that I will be really spending my money to benefit them by buying them what they need right there and then.

My personal opinion on the situation of giving homeless people money is that I don’t think you should in most cases but sometimes you should. Majority of the time I won’t give money to homeless people because they frequently spend it on the wrong things such as alcohol or drugs. If I were going to give them money I would most likely buy them food to insure that they spend the money on the necessities needed to survive. Another reason why I wouldn’t give them money is that some of the lie about being poor and are faking it. I personally knew a lady who would go into Boston and would act like she is poor. This was her only job and she made an estimated $40,000 a year by begging for money and acting like she is homeless. The $40,000 goes straight into her pocket also because it isn’t taxed so she made a significant amount of money by doing this. She drives a Mercedes Benz and she never has to work a day in her life. This is why I wouldn’t trust giving homeless people money. Instead of giving money directly to the homeless people I rather donate the money to a shelter or a soup kitchen because then I would be able to trust that the money would be used for a good cause. So, if you don’t trust giving them the money directly, give it to a foundation because the ones who actually need it will go there to receive the money in the proper ways.

I do not believe in giving money to the homeless people standing on the street corners. There are many reasons why I believe it is something that none of us should do. First of all, homeless people are very persistent in begging people. Sometimes they even get violent and angry if you do not give them money. This is a risky to a person who is simply stopped at a street corner because maybe the bum will try to rob you. Let’s say that you did decide to give him a buck or two so you pulled out your wallet and to your surprise he snatches it or beats you over the head and grabs your wallet. Now you’re not feeling very generous and good; instead you are angry and most likely hurt. Another reason I don’t believe in giving money to these homeless people is that there are many organizations that are formed to help these people get back on their feet. They could be homeless for numerous reasons but they can always be helped and be put to work. Also, you never know who is really homeless. I have heard about many incidents of people standing on street corners collecting money and then walking down the street, hopping in their Mercedes or BMW, and driving off to their home or wherever they go. I have even witnessed this before, where a man dressed dirty and bum-like stepped into a BMW and drove off. I saw this man several times before on street corners saying he was a war veteran. These reasons altogether form my opinion that you should not give money to homeless people on street corners.

The first thing that comes to mind after watching the movie Sicko is that living in America really isn’t has great as I thought it was. It actually made me want to move to another country sometime in my life. When I get older, like into my 40’s, if the U.S. still does not have free healthcare I really would consider moving to Great Britain or France even. I would need to learn how to speak French if I moved to France though.
I think one of the things in the movie that really made me think was the letters that patients were getting listing different reasons why they weren’t going to be covered. For example, the lady who had a brain tumor and her insurance company wouldn’t cover it because they said it wasn’t life threatening. I could just imagine that getting that letter in the mail must have been so devastating to her. That was probably her last hope to live, she must have known that they were wrong to say it wasn’t life threatening. It’s almost like getting a letter telling you you’re going to dye, like sorry there’s no hope for you.
After Mr. Moore went to those other countries and started asking everyone about their free medical care it just made it seem so unnecessary for some people in America to be suffering. When he asked people about it they would laugh at him for even asking how they pay, but to me it really wasn’t funny at all. -u17064833
